The report of statistical survey done around the world says that there are two prominent email clients used in the corporate organizations across the globe, one is Lotus Notes and another is MS Outlook. These two email messaging systems are very common among small, medium or large organizations. But, it has been seen that some of the organizations are migrating their email messaging systems from Notes to Outlook.

Migration is always a hectic process. Whether, it’s change of house, change of school, job or just switch of email server. Even an organization amends its working tools from time to time. One such change can be shifting from lotus notes to MS outlook. But no one can afford to lose the data that’s already on the current mail server. That is where notes to PST converters play a significant role in fixing all the issues.

Why do you need this?

Lotus Notes uses NSF files to store all its data whereas outlook uses PST files. While a change from notes to outlook, the file extension does not remain compatible anymore and the earlier files can’t be accessed with the new server. Thus you need a converter to successfully transform the NSF files to PST type and resolve this anomalous concern.

Key features which make them a hit

Notes converters are vital in letting you retrieve all the data which was earlier on Lotus and now can be used through Outlook. They help in converting each and every feature of notes to outlook. It’s an exact replica of the earlier mails and files with a new face. We can have a look at the exquisite features of this competent Lotus notes to PST software:

Even supports Unicode Character Conversion

Preserves original formatting after migration

Software keeps all meta data like sent and received date, attachments, to, cc, bcc, address

Normally good converters have all these specifics and also support all the versions and servers of Lotus and Outlook.

Kernel for Lotus Notes to Outlook

Nucleus technologies also have a good grip in this field with their own excellent conversion software featuring all the above mentioned particulars.

Email migration from Notes to MS Outlook email client may seem to be a tedious task, but with the help of proper tools, administrators can easily export Lotus Notes to Outlook. In the process of email migration, all the emails, mailbox items and often entire mailboxes of multiple user accounts are exported from one platform to another. Such user account mailbox migration takes place between Lotus Domino Server and MS Exchange Server by converting files from .NSF format to .PST format. These file systems are used by Lotus Notes and MS Outlook respectively and contains information related to all the user accounts including the mailbox data. By converting NSF files to PST files, administrators can successfully export Lotus Notes to Outlook; however manual conversion involves time and the risk of human errors. Therefore, software tools that help in converting NSF files to PST files are employed for greater accuracy.

Software utility such as Kernel for Lotus Notes to Outlook can be used to migrate emails and user mailboxes from Lotus Domino Server to MS Exchange Server. Such tools are far more efficient than the free utilities offered by Microsoft like the Migration Wizard (Mailmig.exe), which is incapable of converting mailboxes of size more than 1 GB or with items exceeding 16,000 figures. Using third party tools make the task of email migration simple and do not affect the communication flow during the process. With tools like Kernel for Lotus Notes to Outlook, system administrators can seamlessly export Lotus to Outlook without considering the number of user accounts or the size of mailboxes. by converting NSF files to PST file format it is possible to export emails, calendars, drafts, address books, contact details, Notes, journals, archives and other mailbox items to MS Outlook platform. Once the conversion is complete, users can access their mailboxes from Outlook client.

NSF to PST conversion tools are also used to export multiple user account mailboxes from the Lotus Domino Server to MS Exchange server. By this process, administrators can select “n” number of NSF files in bulk from Lotus to Outlook. Upon conversion, it is possible to save the converted files in PST format or in Exchange Server format. Email migration with the help of export Lotus Notes to Outlook utilities helps in saving emails in Plain Text format and RTF format. Conversion from NSF to PST format is with accuracy and the original formatting, data structure and metadata of the mailbox items are not altered. Migrating from one platform to another becomes less complex with software tools as these are compatible with all versions of Lotus Notes, Lotus Domino Server, MS Outlook and MS Exchange Server.

if above points are taken care of then this problem of Mailto link starting Lotus Notes instead of MS Outlook gets resolved easily, without creating fuss around.

If you feel an urge of changing email environment from Lotus Notes to MS Outlook or Exchange Server, then you can do so easily by migrating all your .NSF files to .PST files and can start afresh with MS Outlook as your email client.

Kernel for Lotus Notes to PST is powerful and effective email migration software to convert all Notes .NSF file to Outlook .PST files in most accurate and convenient manner.

Actually the thing is Lotus Notes client’s export filters do not properly maintain the color properties of screen capture bitmaps when converting the message body from Composite Data (CD) format to Rich-Text Format (RTF). The bitmap is described within the RTF structure as having a color depth of one pixel.

If going with the basics then it will be clear to you. Lotus Notes’ native document format is Composite Data (CD) whereas MS Exchange or Outlook uses Rich-Text Format (RTF) as its native document formats. Therefore the problem lies here. However, color bitmaps are fully supported by the current RTF specification.

Solution

The Lotus Notes client provides Export\Import filters that include transforms for converting CD-to-RTF and vice versa. The Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes relies upon the functionality available in these Notes DLLs for conversion of RTF-to-CD, and CD-to-RTF. But Lotus Notes has not yet updated these conversion routines to support the current RTF spec. The result is that screen capture bitmaps are rendered in black and white when converted into RTF.

If you opt for Kernel for Lotus Notes to PST software then you will get complete and accurate email migration from Lotus Notes email platform to MS Outlook email platform.

Many of you have used Microsoft’s Exchange Migration Wizard for migrating from Lotus Notes to PST email client. You must have noticed that when you export items from Notes to a PST file by using migration wizard, the migration wizard cannot extract the email items if the size of the mailbox is larger than 1G or the email items is more than 16,000 items in one folder.

Consider an example, you are trying to migrate a mailbox whose size is about 1.6 GB and the number of message items is about 4,000. Now when you migrate the items, you can only obtain 1,500 items. If the size of the mailbox is less than 1GB, the migration can be successful. But in case you have more than 16,128 messages in one folder, the migration cannot be successful completely.

Reason behind this issue

This particular issue occurs due to occurrence of following some limitations while migrating from a Lotus Notes database to Outlook PST file:

API can only obtain 16,128 items from any given folder.

1GB mailbox size limits of the migration items.

Resolution

In order to resolve this issue, you can perform the following points.

Reduce the size of the mailbox on the Lotus Notes server.

Use Outlook to dump all the mail items to PST files and merge the files into the user’s mailbox by using the Exmerge tool.

Another easy and break free option could be to use third party tool something like Kernel for Lotus Notes to PST, which is competent in performing migration irrespective of size of the user mailboxes. Try its demo version first and see if it could migrate such large number of mailbox items from Notes to PST.
