Getting black and white bitmap image from Lotus Notes in Exchange
You might receive a Lotus Notes message containing black and white bitmap image in Exchange email client such as Outlook. You must be wondering what this image is.
Reason behind this issue
This problem usually occurs due to incompatibility of Notes and Outlook. Therefore any kind of interaction between them is usually coupled with complications until you opt to convert Lotus Notes to PST.
Actually the thing is Lotus Notes client’s export filters do not properly maintain the color properties of screen capture bitmaps when converting the message body from Composite Data (CD) format to Rich-Text Format (RTF). The bitmap is described within the RTF structure as having a color depth of one pixel.
If going with the basics then it will be clear to you. Lotus Notes’ native document format is Composite Data (CD) whereas MS Exchange or Outlook uses Rich-Text Format (RTF) as its native document formats. Therefore the problem lies here. However, color bitmaps are fully supported by the current RTF specification.
Solution
The Lotus Notes client provides Export\Import filters that include transforms for converting CD-to-RTF and vice versa. The Microsoft Exchange Connector for Lotus Notes relies upon the functionality available in these Notes DLLs for conversion of RTF-to-CD, and CD-to-RTF. But Lotus Notes has not yet updated these conversion routines to support the current RTF spec. The result is that screen capture bitmaps are rendered in black and white when converted into RTF.
If you opt for Kernel for Lotus Notes to PST software then you will get complete and accurate email migration from Lotus Notes email platform to MS Outlook email platform.
